"The film has a quirk and charm that was executed with great comedic timing."
"The ensemble cast nailed the comedic awkwardness throughout the film."
Growing up with ichthyosis, Jonathan Green (writer/director/lead actor) couldn't find himself in a single human character on screen. The only one who felt like him was Shrek — an ogre everyone thought was ugly, who learned to keep the world at a distance before it could keep him there first.
That's why he made Miss Matched — the first positive portrayal of ichthyosis in narrative media. Not a documentary. Not a tragedy. Just a love story with a lead who happens to have a rare skin disorder.
Warm, funny, and deliberately familiar — because that's exactly the point. When you place a character with a disability inside a framework audiences already associate with joy, you don't ask them to work to accept him. You just let the character belong.
That number has barely moved since 2015. The audience exists. The demand is real. And the stories are overdue.
Miss Matched meets that demand not with a message film, but with a romantic comedy — because disability belongs in stories that make people feel good. When underrepresented communities see themselves in characters who get to fall in love, laugh, and belong, it doesn't just change what they believe about themselves. It changes what everyone else believes too.
